Kirtan

The Satya Kirtan Band invites YOU to join us every 3rd Thursday of the month, 7:15pm-8:45pm (donations accepted)

Kirtan is a devotional practice rooted in the ancient traditions of Bhakti Yoga, often referred to as the yoga of love and devotion. It involves the singing or chanting of mantras, sacred sounds, or spiritual verses in a call-and-response style, accompanied by music. Typically performed with instruments like harmonium and drums, we add many layers including didgeridoo, handpan, guitar, and more!  Kirtan invites participants to come together in a communal expression of joy, gratitude, and connection.  This call-and-response style is open to anyone wanting to elevate their mood.

The repetitive nature of the chants, combined with rhythmic melodies, creates a meditative experience that transcends language and cultural barriers. Whether sung in Sanskrit, English, or other languages, the essence of Kirtan lies in its ability to open the heart and uplift the spirit.

How is Kirtan Healing?  Kirtan offers profound healing benefits, both physically and emotionally. Here’s how:

  1. Activates the Parasympathetic Nervous System: The rhythmic chanting slows the breath and calms the mind, reducing stress and activating the body’s natural relaxation response.
  2. Releases Emotional Blockages: Singing and chanting can unlock suppressed emotions, allowing participants to release pent-up feelings in a safe and supportive environment.
  3. Promotes Unity and Connection: Participating in Kirtan fosters a sense of community and shared purpose, reducing feelings of isolation and enhancing emotional well-being.
  4. Balances Energy: The vibrational qualities of the mantras resonate with the body’s energy centers (chakras), helping to align and harmonize them.
  5. Focuses the Mind: Repeating mantras quiets mental chatter, creating a meditative state that promotes clarity and focus.
  6. Cultivates Joy and Gratitude: The uplifting melodies and heartfelt devotion of Kirtan can spark feelings of bliss and open the heart to gratitude and compassion.

Why Practice Kirtan? Kirtan is not just about singing—it’s a deeply immersive spiritual experience. It’s accessible to all, requiring no prior musical or meditative experience. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, emotional healing, or a deeper connection to yourself and others, Kirtan is a pathway to inner peace and joy.

Join a Kirtan session and discover the healing power of sound, community, and devotion.
